A campaign has been launched in Salisbury to raise awareness about the dangers of tampering with emergency cords in accessible toilets.
The initiative is being led by the Disability Interest Group of Salisbury, working with Salisbury City Council and Signs in Motion.
Posters are now being installed in accessible toilets across the city to highlight the issue.
Campaigners say red emergency cords are essential safety features for people with disabilities.
They are designed to be reached from the floor in case of an emergency and must always hang freely.
Tying, knotting or cutting the cords can prevent people from calling for help when they need it most.
The campaign received unanimous support from Salisbury City Council’s Commercial Services Committee earlier this year.
Organisers say even a short delay in reaching a cord during an emergency could put lives at risk.
Residents and businesses are being urged to ensure cords remain accessible and are not interfered with.
