Salisbury Cathedral has announced the return of its popular Be a Chorister for a Day event, taking place on Saturday, 4th October.
It's described as a free and fun-filled afternoon that marks the start of the Cathedral’s annual chorister recruitment and offers children in Years 2, 3, and 4 a unique opportunity to experience life as a chorister.
Participants will sing alongside current choristers in a lively workshop led by David Halls, Salisbury Cathedral’s Director of Music. As part of the day, children will also record a festive “singing Christmas card,” which will be sent to parents later in the year.
While the children enjoy some playtime in the Salisbury Cathedral School playground after the singing workshop, parents and guardians can look around the school and explore what it means to have a chorister in the family. The day concludes with the children participating in a special Evensong with the Cathedral choristers, a musical tradition that dates back over 900 years.
David Halls, Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral, said, “We welcome all children with a love of singing to see what it’s like to be part of one of the leading cathedral choirs in the country. The energy of this day is infectious – it’s a fun and informal afternoon for children who have a passion for music and are team players.”
As well as the "Be a Chorister for a Day", there are additional opportunities to prepare before the voice trials. There is a Voice Trial Workshop on Saturday, 6th December 2025, to learn more about what the voice trial entails and what to expect. Informal Pre-Auditions are also on offer, which can help keep nerves at bay before the important Voice Trial Day.
