Salisbury Cathedral will present a series of intimate chamber concerts by candlelight in the tranquil setting of the North Transept in the Cathedral during 2025.
This varied and exciting series opens with Winter Words by Candlelight on Friday, 17th January, with highly acclaimed British tenor Ruairi Bowen and prize-winning accompanist William Vann performing Benjamin Britten’s Winter Words, a song cycle of Thomas Hardy’s poems exploring several themes, including memory, nature and human experience.
Purcell by Candlelight on Friday, 14th February is the perfect romantic setting for lovers of early music as Edward Rimmer conducts a consort of eight singers through some of Henry Purcell’s most expressive and powerful religious music, accompanied by a small ensemble of period instruments.
World renowned pianist, academic and broadcaster David Owen Norris will perform Piano by Candlelight on Friday, 14th March, a delightful programme of music including composers such as Handel, Mendelssohn, Byrd, as well as his own compositions, all with connections to Salisbury.
The final concert of the series is the Wind Quartet by Candlelight on Friday, 2nd May, where the Mayflower Ensemble will celebrate composers who write high-quality chamber music of all genres. A particular highlight will be Holst’s Quintet for wind and piano.
Tickets for these concerts are now on sale; further information and ticketing details can be found at www.salisburycathedral.org.uk
