An Everyman cinema could be opening in Salisbury city centre.
The quirky cinema company has submitted a planning application to turn the former Buzz Bingo on 17 Endless Street into a cinema.
The former Bingo site has been vacant since 2019. Now, the cinema company hope to turn the space into “an attractive a high-quality cinema which enhances Salisbury City Centre.”
The application is currently under consultation, but according to the plans, the cinema will include four screens, a foyer and lounge and bar areas.
The plans say the bars will provide a place for customers to buy cinema tickets, typical cinema food of popcorn and drinks as well as Everyman’s “Spielburger” food offering.
Everyman says they plan to “restore and highlight” the art deco features of the building while furnishing the foyer, lounge and waiting areas for the cinema with loose sofas, tables, and other furniture. The auditoriums “will be decorated to the high standard found across Everyman’s portfolio of cinemas.”
Everyman Cinema Group aims to redefine cinema by bringing an innovative lifestyle approach to watching films. Viewers can enjoy alcoholic beverages and a quality food offering while sitting on comfy sofas that create a homely, luxury cinema experience.
The Everyman Cinema website says, “We create a warm and friendly atmosphere, with an excellent food and drink selection and fantastic customer service. With a wide array of mainstream, independent and classic films, special events, launches and a diverse calendar of live satellite broadcasts, there is something for everyone at Everyman.”
If the plans are approved, the Endless Street building will return to its original purpose as a cinema. The plans state that the former Bingo site was originally opened as the Regal Cinema in 1936. The cinema had around 964 seats in the stalls and 644 seats in the circle. It was renamed as the ABC Cinema in 1963, before being closed in 1969 and subsequently converted into a Bingo Hall.
