One of Hampshire’s best-loved annual events returns this Saturday, 12 September, promising a packed day of entertainment, countryside traditions, animals, food, shopping, music and family fun.

The Romsey Show will open its gates from 8am until 5.30pm for a celebration of agriculture, rural life and the local community. With activities taking place across the showground throughout the day, visitors are being encouraged to check the individual timetables available on the Romsey Show website before they arrive, so they can plan their day and make sure they don’t miss their favourites.

At the heart of the action will be the President’s Main Ring, where some of the Show’s great traditions will take centre stage.

The impressive Heavy Horse Parade is always a highlight, alongside the Light Horse Supreme Championship and the popular parade of Vintage Machinery and Classic Vehicles.

For those looking for something a little more high-octane, the spectacular Extreme Bike Battle BMX Display will bring breathtaking tricks, jumps and stunts to the Show, providing a thrilling contrast to some of its more traditional attractions and promising plenty of edge-of-the-seat entertainment.

For animal lovers, there will be plenty to see across the showground, with cattle – including magnificent Highland cattle – sheep, horses, ponies and donkeys, as well as rabbits and reptiles among the animals visitors can encounter during the day.

The Show’s livestock classes and Grand Parade remain an important part of its agricultural heritage, providing an opportunity for visitors of all ages to get close to the countryside and learn more about the animals, people and traditions at the heart of rural life.

Four-legged family members can get involved too. Dogs are welcome at the Show on short, non-retractable leads and the ever-popular Family Dog Show returns, giving visitors the chance to enter their own canine companions into a range of fun classes on the day.

Food lovers will want to make a beeline for the Hampshire Fare Skills Kitchen, where talented chefs will be cooking live throughout the day. Among those appearing will be Hampshire chef Luke Emmess, Head Chef at Winchester’s two-AA-rosette Wykeham Arms and one of the three finalists in this year’s BBC MasterChef: The Professionals.

Elsewhere, the Show’s extensive Food Zone will showcase local produce alongside a wide choice of food and drink, while hundreds of trade, shopping and craft stands across the showground will offer everything from rural crafts, gifts and clothing to food, gardening and countryside products.

Music will provide the soundtrack to the day too. The Show’s Busk Stops will feature performances including the Michelmersh Silver Band, while a dedicated Beggars Fair performance area will showcase performers associated with Romsey’s much-loved annual music festival, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to stop, listen and soak up the atmosphere as they explore.

Younger visitors – and quite possibly a few competitive grown-ups – can also embrace one of the fastest-growing equestrian crazes without needing an actual horse! The hugely entertaining Hobby Horse competitions will invite competitors to put their jumping skills to the test aboard their trusty hobby horses.

There is even more to discover around the showground, from falconry, dog agility and The Sheep Show to circus skills, floral art, horticulture, the Fur & Feather Tent, fairground and children’s activities.

The breadth of attractions is part of what has made The Romsey Show such an enduring part of Hampshire life but behind the spectacle of Show Day lies something equally important.

The Romsey Show is a charity-run event, organised by the Romsey Agricultural & Horse Show Society and made possible by an extraordinary team of volunteers. Funds raised by the Society are used towards staging the Show and supporting donations and initiatives connected with the local community and countryside.

Visitors can still save money, with discounted pre-show tickets available until the day before the Show and children under 12 are admitted free.
