Following their recent Ofsted inspection, Wyvern St Edmund’s has been recognised for its strong leadership, positive pupil behaviour, and broad personal development offer.
While the Quality of Education was judged as 'Requires Improvement', the school says it has a clear and ambitious plan to secure rapid improvement.
Ofsted acknowledged that the curriculum has already been redesigned with greater ambition and sequencing, and much of this is already working well.
Inspectors highlighted the school’s culture of togetherness, its ambitious vision, and the positive impact of its ‘GRACE’ values throughout the school community.
The report said, "The school has high expectations for its pupils. The majority of pupils conduct themselves well and follow the routines that help them to prepare and focus on their learning. The curriculum has been recently re-designed. The school is ambitious for pupils to achieve well. However, the work to make sure it is well implemented is developing, so not all pupils achieve as well as they should."
There was also praise for the experiences and extra-curricular activities available to pupils, "Through a full and varied enrichment offer, the school develops pupils’ experiences beyond their academic learning. There are numerous clubs, such as the coding club, sports or the string orchestra, which develop the interests and talents of all pupils. The school makes sure that there are no limitations for attending extra-curricular clubs, such as bus travel. As a result, there is high pupil attendance."
Headteacher Louise Henderson said, "We are proud of the many strengths identified in the inspection, and we welcome the feedback on where we can improve further.
"Our exceptional team of staff are central to our strategy, and their passion, expertise, and commitment will accelerate the improvements we want to see. Supported by Magna Learning Partnership, we are determined to ensure every student receives the high-quality education they deserve."
The school says it remains committed to providing an inspiring, inclusive, and enriching education for all, supported by strong pastoral care and a wide range of extracurricular opportunities.
