A mountain of bras collected by Wiltshire Police officers and staff has been handed over to a Devizes lingerie shop owner in support of the charity Against Breast Cancer.
Earlier this year, Speed Enforcement Investigator Georgina Dahl visited Amelie Lingerie in Devizes for a routine bra fitting. During her visit, she met Emily Hodges, the boutique’s owner, and learned about the charity’s bra recycling initiative.
The scheme raises vital funds for breast cancer research—around £700 for every tonne of bras donated—and also supports women’s cooperatives in developing countries, where the bras are redistributed to help women earn a sustainable income.
Emily also shared that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. What began as a charitable passion has since become a deeply personal mission.
Moved by Emily’s courage and determination, Georgina was inspired to do more than donate a few bras. She rallied support across Wiltshire Police, encouraging colleagues to dig through their drawers and donate any unwanted bras—regardless of size, style, or condition. The initiative quickly grew into a community-wide effort, with local schools, Women’s Institutes, and villages joining the cause.
Collection boxes were set up across the Force, and on October 21, the bras were officially handed over to Emily at Wiltshire Police HQ in Devizes.
Emily Hodges said: “One in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer—including me. That’s why supporting research into early detection and treatment is more important than ever.
"Seeing the sheer volume of bras collected by Wiltshire Police is incredibly emotional. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude, and I know the charity will be blown away. Thank you all so much.”
Georgina Dahl added, “Raising awareness about breast cancer can start with something as simple as donating a bra. This initiative not only helps fund research but also encourages women to check themselves and seek help early.
"It’s also a powerful way to strengthen the bond between the police and our communities. I want to thank everyone who contributed—your generosity has been truly inspiring.”
