Wiltshire Council reminding us of the benefits of paying for parking by app

Wiltshire Council are encouraging us to use the MiPermit app when parking in Wiltshire Council car parks.

The MiPermit app can be used to pay for parking in any Wiltshire Council pay and display car park, with app users also having the extra advantages of being able to pay for parking in advance or extend their stay without having to return to their car.

It is also possible to book stays over multiple days and purchase season tickets.

The council still accepts cash and card payments in its car parks for people who prefer to use those methods, but for many people, payment using the MiPermit app is quicker and easier - and there is no extra charge for use.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Paying using the MiPermit app gives people a lot more flexibility to manage their parking session should their requirements change, meaning they concentrate on their activities without worrying about the parking.

“The tariff is the same whatever method of payment you choose, and the app is the quickest and most convenient way to pay. The extra features it has such as directions back to your car, the ability to extend your stay and future parking payment are just an added bonus.

“Of course, some people will prefer to use cash or card to pay for parking and we'll continue to support these payment methods in our car parks. The speed of repairing parking machines when they breakdown is a key focus for us but parking machines are more vulnerable and may be unavailable from time to time, for which we apologise. If a machine isn't working, we'd encourage people to use MiPermit instead to pay for parking.

"We have installed additional signage for Mipermit users, detailing the tariffs around our car parks, which are clearly visible even when a faulty parking machine is covered."
