Dr Tony Hersh is an experienced Magistrate and will be giving a talk to let people know what the job is like.
In his talk about being a magistrate, Tony will give some background on the history and powers of Magistrates. Real cases are then presented with a discussion by the group regarding the appropriate sentence before he explains what actual sentence was given and why.
The talk is being put on by Sarum U3a (University of the 3rd Age) as part of their schedule of talks and events.
It’s an interactive, fun, educational talk that has received highly positive feedback.
Tony has a degree in Human Biology and a PhD in medical biochemistry.
He has been a Magistrate for five years and sits in the magistrate courts in Basingstoke and Aldershot and Winchester Crown Court.
Members and guests are warmly welcome to attend the meeting, which will start at 10 am with coffee. Guests are invited to join Sarum u3a after two visits.
Please come along to St Francis Church, Beatrice Road, Salisbury SP1 3PN.
Parking is available at the rear of the church or in a car park on the opposite side of the main road from the church.
Sarum u3a is an organisation which welcomes people no longer in full-time employment to come together to learn, laugh and live. They offer various interest groups led by members with knowledge, experience or simply an interest in the subject, meeting in their homes.
They hold monthly meetings on the third Wednesday morning of the month with qualified professional speakers starting at 10 am with coffee or tea.
