During the Evensong service on Thursday 1 October, the Right Reverend Karen Gorham, Acting Bishop of Salisbury, invited three new canons to be installed in the College of Canons at Salisbury Cathedral.

This included two non-residentiary canons and one lay canon from the wider Cathedral community.

The College of Canons is part of the Cathedral’s extended family and meets twice a year to provide feedback on policy decisions made by Chapter, the Cathedral’s governing body, and on Cathedral activities.

Revd Helen Bailey takes her place in the Yetminster Prima stall in the Cathedral Quire. She has been Vicar of St John’s Church in Broadstone for eight years, and Dean of Women’s Ministry in the Diocese of Salisbury since May last year. Before ordination in 2010, Helen was Assistant Head of English in secondary schools and has published study guides.

Revd Beth Hutton, taking her place in the Westbury stall in the Quire, has served in parishes in the Diocese of Salisbury since her ordination in the Cathedral in 1995. She is currently Team Rector of Whitton and Rural Dean of Marlborough, and a member of the Diocesan Board of Patronage.

Katie Fitzsimmons is the Diocesan Director of Education and CEO of the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education, and serves on several charitable trusts. Before Salisbury, Katie served as Diocesan Director of Education for the Diocese of Truro, building on her work as a teacher and improvement advisor in schools. Katie will take up the Durnford stall in the Quire.
