The Hills - and Cathedral - are Alive with The Sound of Music

Audiences will have an opportunity to enjoy Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic film musical The Sound of Music on the big screen in Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday 5 September.

Starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, the film was first released in 1965 and has become a classic ever since, winning five Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director) and two Golden Globes, and becoming one of the most commercially successful films ever made.

It is the perfect movie to be screened in the Cathedral, with its story of a novice nun who leaves her convent to become governess to a naval captain with seven children.

The film is packed with instantly familiar songs, including Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, The Lonely Goatherd and the title song itself, The Sound of Music, and the beautiful Austrian scenery will look spectacular on the big screen.

This enchanting film will be shown as part of the Cathedral’s year-long theme Joyful Noise, and under the soaring arches will provide a unique opportunity to experience the film unlike ever before.

Tickets for The Sound of Music on Saturday 5 September are available now via the Salisbury Cathedral website. There will also be a bar serving refreshments on the night.
