Spot the Flying Scotsman in Salisbury next week

The iconic Flying Scotsman will be steaming through Salisbury on Tuesday 21st September.

Described as the most famous steam locomotive in the world, the train was built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at Doncaster Works to a design by H.N. Gresley.

The locomotive was employed on long-distance express trains on the London and North Eastern Railway and was named after the passenger service from London King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley on the east coast mainline.

On a special trip organised by Steam Dreams, the train will make an appearance in the cathedral city on a journey from London Victoria to Salisbury.

According to the Steam Dreams website, the steam locomotive will depart from London Victoria at 8.45am and arrive in Salisbury at 11.45am.

It will then make a circular journey down the South Coast before following a scenic route to Eastleigh and back to Salisbury, displaying views of Southampton and the Solent.

The famous locomotive is set to leave Salisbury at t 3.05pm, returning at 5.10pm. It will then depart Salisbury at 6.50pm to return to London Victoria at 9.30pm.

Anyone looking to spot the locomotive in Salisbury should not trespass or crowd at stations.
