Share Salisbury in Search for New Home

A local 'Library of Things', Share Salisbury are on the hunt for a new location to operate from after their lease ran out on their base on Churchfields Industrial Estate.

The community group are looking forward to celebrating our fifth birthday this summer. They have spent five years of lending out drills, gazebos, pressure washers, giant Jenga, waffle makers and more to local people! They help hundreds of borrowers to save money and space, supporting the community and promoting a circular economy.

Save Our Share is their campaign to find new premises.

What they need:

  • A location within about three miles of central Salisbury

  • A space about 10m x10m sq with a parking space

  • Access to a toilet and sink!

In return, Share Salisbury can pay some rent and provide the opportunity to support a much-loved community organisation.

Share Director Jimmy Walker says, "The Salisbury Library of Things matters far more than the objects that we have on our shelves. Share Salisbury is about people, the community and providing sustainability and affordability in a society where all our budgets are stretched. Please help us find a new home."

Customer ‘Dave’ says: "The item I wanted to borrow was ready for me to collect at the storage site and I felt that the staff were friendly and helpful. I also thought that it was such a great idea to be able to borrow the item at a very fair cost rather than spending a fortune buying something that I would probably only have needed to use once or twice."

Facts and figures

  • Share Salisbury has around 751 active borrowers

  • Last year, Share lent out 1,180 items

  • George the Carpet Cleaner is the most popular item, borrowed 38 times last year – spending 211 days away on sleepovers at borrowers’ homes!

  • To support those on low incomes, they offer a cheaper membership deal

  • Share Salisbury is a non-profit – all money we make keeps us ticking over!

  • There are now over 100 libraries of things in the UK but if they don’t find a home… Salisbury will no longer be one of them.
