The families and friends of two long-term volunteers and supporters of Amesbury Town Football Club are holding a charity football match and fun day in their memory.
The match is in memory of Brian 'Sammy' Dunford, a former president and volunteer at Amesbury Town FC and is the second time the match has been held. His family and friends will team up to form Dunford Saints.
They will face off against Mundy's Hammers, a team made up of family and friends of Al Mundy, another long-serving member of the Amesbury Town FC community.
On the day, as well as the Charity Match, Amesbury Town FC are making it into a Family Fun Day.
There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, ice creams and music.
The Royal Artillery, the Fire Service, and the Ambulance Service will also be in attendance with vehicles and equipment for the kids (and not so little kids!!) to explore and learn more about these fantastic people and what they do in our community.
One of the organisers, Neil Dunford, said, "Brian ’Sammy’ Dunford passed away in April 2024. As well as being our Dad, he was a lifelong friend and supporter, and eventually, long-standing President of Amesbury Town FC.
"Upon his passing, I approached ATFC about playing a Charity Match in his name, and so the Sammy Dunford Memorial Cup was born. Last year, a team made up of family members (the starting 11 were all Dunford’s) and family friends played against an ATFC Legends side.
"This year, we are playing against another family and friends team, made up of the family and friends of Al Mundy. Al was also a long-time friend and supporter of ATFC and held the role of Vice President and Secretary.
"Both Sammy and Al are greatly missed by their respective families and ATFC, so are are hoping to do both of them proud, put on a good friendly match and raise as much money as possible for Dementia UK."
The match takes place at Bonymead Recreation Ground on Sunday, 24th August, with gates opening at 1 pm and the game kicking off at 3 pm.
