Salisbury City Council have made the decision to cancel the Charter Market and close Christmas on the Square on Saturday, 7th December because of Storm Darragh.
They say that after closely monitoring the weekend’s weather forecast, they've made the difficult decision to adjust some activities in the Guildhall Square and Market Place this weekend for safety reasons.
The Snow Bar at Christmas on the Square has moved Saturday's music entertainment, a Reggae Night with Hamlet Peter, to this evening (Friday, 6th December) at 7pm.
Saturday 7 December:
• The Charter Market is cancelled, and no traders may attend, including those with hard structures like vehicles or fruit and veg stalls.
• All Christmas on the Square events, including the Gift Fayre, Santa’s Grotto, Snow Bar, and food huts, will be closed.
Sunday 8 December:
• The Sunday Festive Market is cancelled.
• Christmas on the Square is expected to reopen (Gift Fayre, Santa’s Grotto, Snow Bar, and food huts). However, they will continue to monitor the situation, and if further closures are necessary, they will provide updates as soon as possible.
They said, "If you’ve booked Santa’s Grotto for Saturday, 7 December, we’ll contact you shortly to reschedule.
"The Craft & Gift Market inside Salisbury Guildhall will proceed as planned from Friday 6 December through Sunday 8 December.
"Your safety, and that of our traders, remains our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
