Salisbury City Council signs the PCC Safety at Night Charter

Salisbury City Council is delighted to have signed the Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC) Safety at Night Charter.

The Safety at Night Charter is a fantastic initiative aiming to take practical steps to make Wiltshire and Swindon safer at night.

The Charter is aimed at any organisation, establishment or venue which operates in the evening and night-time economy, including cinemas, gyms, theatres, public transport operators, sports venues and more.

The Safety at Night Charter, which is helping to deliver Making Wiltshire Safer: Police and Crime Plan 2022-25, is not just limited to bars, pubs and restaurants – it is for any organisation, establishment or venue which operates in the evening and night-time economy including cinemas, gyms, theatres, public transport operators, sports venues and more.

Salisbury City Council already plays a role in the night-time economy in Salisbury as an operator of an evening venue (Salisbury Guildhall) and as a provider of services which contribute to the city’s public spaces.

By signing the Charter, the City Council shows acknowledgement of the issue and its intention to ensure better safety at night in Salisbury where its actions and activities are relevant.

One of the Leaders of the City Council, Cllr Ian Tomes said, “All sections of society should feel safe, secure and respected at all times of the day and night".

“With the City Council signing the 'Safety at Night' Charter, we hope to help Salisbury be a safer place for all to enjoy.”
