Salisbury City Council shows support for Local Electricity Bill at Full Council Meeting

At its Full Council Meeting on Monday 27th June 2022, Salisbury City Council resolved to support the Local Electricity Bill.

The Bill is currently supported by a cross-party group of 300 MPs, which if made law would establish a Right to Local Supply. This would promote local renewable electricity supply by making the setup and running costs of selling renewable electricity to local customers proportionate to the size of the supply company.

The City Council further resolved to write to the local MP, Mr John Glen, requesting that he supports the Bill, and to write to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Rt Hon Kwasi Kwarteng, to express Salisbury City Council’s support for the Local Electricity Bill.

The Council also plan to write to the organisers of the campaign behind the Local Electricity Bill, Power for People expressing its support for the campaign to help the generation of locally produced energy.
