Philip Wilkinson is Wiltshire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner

Yesterday (19th August 2021) residents took to the polls to vote in Wiltshire’s second Police and Crime Commissioner election.

The need for a second election came after the elected candidate, Jonathan Seed, was disqualified for a previous drink driving conviction.

Today, Philip Wilkinson has been elected as Wiltshire and Swindon’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Mr Wilkinson will be responsible for creating a strategy for policing and community safety through a Police and Crime Plan, providing a local link between the police, local authorities, partner agencies and the community.

The vote result as announced today (20th August 2021) was:

Junab Ali (Labour and Co-operative) - 12,971
Julian Malins (Reform UK) - 1,859
Brian Mathew (Liberal Democrats) - 17,966
Mike Rees (Independent) - 25,197
Philip Wilkinson (Conservative) - 32,564

The election saw a turnout of 16.63% across Wiltshire and Swindon with 91,553 votes cast in total.

Terence Herbert, Police Area Returning Officer for Wiltshire said, "Congratulations to Philip Wilkinson on being elected as Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner and we look forward to working with him during the coming months and years.

“It has been a busy few months preparing for this unexpected election, and I’d like to thank my team and everyone who provided support for tackling every challenge that came their way with professionalism, commitment, hard work and good humour.”
