Mayor of Wilton Selects Salisbury Hospice Charity for Mayor's Appeal

Councillor Chris Harrison, Mayor of Wilton, has selected Salisbury Hospice’s “Sponsor a Nurse” campaign as his Mayor’s Appeal charity for this mayoral term.

Speaking about the Hospice, Cllr Harrison said, “Every day, Salisbury Hospice nurses support people facing the hardest moments of their lives.

"They care for people coming to terms with their prognosis and support their families to try to make the most of each day. They ease pain, calm fears, answer difficult questions and offer comfort when words are hard to find.

"But their care goes far beyond medicine. They also help families create memories that will be treasured forever – a shared laugh, a birthday, a wedding, or simply a moment of closeness with the people they love. When time becomes precious, these moments can mean everything”.

Salisbury Hospice’s services extend beyond the hospice, too. Along with inpatient services, a Community Specialist Palliative Care Team also works to deliver personalised care to patients in their own homes.

The hospice needs over £3 million each year to run all its services, and it costs £119 per day for each registered nurse.

78 Wilton residents have had contact with the hospice in the last financial year (2025/26); 72 of these received care from the community palliative care team, while 6 were admitted to the inpatient unit.

In total, there were 407 face-to-face interactions between Wilton residents and hospice services (more than 1 every day), and 426 telephone interactions.

Alex Brown, Community Fundraiser for Salisbury Hospice, said, “We are delighted to hear that the Mayor of Wilton, Cllr Chris Harrison, has chosen to support our ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ campaign throughout his mayoral year, and we look forward to hearing more about the fundraising efforts of the Mayor and the residents of Wilton.

"Thank you to everyone for choosing Salisbury Hospice to benefit from this year, so that we can continue to support patients and families through the most difficult times.”
