A man has been jailed after being found guilty of intentional suffocation.
Timothy Bossard, 42, of Ludwell, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court last week (11/6) to 21 months imprisonment.
The incident happened towards the end of 2025 - Bossard suffocated his victim by holding a pillow over her face until she struggled to breathe. The pair were in a relationship at the time.
In December, the victim reported the incident to police, and an investigation began.
As well as the prison sentence, a two-year restraining order was also imposed, which means Bossard cannot contact his victim nor attend her address during this time.
In a victim impact statement read in court, the victim said, “I am now fully engaged in therapy and hope that, over time, I will be able to heal. However, at present, I feel that I have lost my sense of who I am. I have gone from being someone who supports others and helps them with their lives, to being someone who now needs help themselves. This change has been deeply painful and disorientating. His actions have caused lasting and life-changing damage that I continue to live with every day.”
Local crime investigator Catherine Barrett said, “Bossard’s actions left his victim living in constant fear of what he might do next.
“We take reports of this type of behaviour extremely seriously. It has a devastating and lasting impact on victims and their families. No one should ever feel unsafe in their own home, and we are committed to ensuring that perpetrators like Bossard are held fully accountable for the harm they cause.
“I’d like to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation. Her strength has ensured that Bossard can no longer pose a threat to her. We will continue to pursue offenders, protect victims, and work tirelessly to prevent this kind of abuse in our communities.”
