After a 29-year international career, Salisbury-born pro wrestler steps into the ring one last time for Ring Wrestling Stars’ "Salisbury Slamdown" on September 13th.
Ring Wrestling Stars has announced that Salisbury-born professional wrestler Tristan Hayes will perform in the final match of his 29-year in-ring career on September 13th at Salisbury City Hall during the action-packed Salisbury Slamdown.
Hayes, who attended Wilton First School, Wilton Middle School, and Westwood St Thomas, discovered his life’s passion at age 11 when his late father, Jeremy, brought him to Salisbury City Hall in 1992 to watch British wrestling legend Giant Haystacks.
Already an avid fan consuming American wrestling on Sky TV and VHS tapes, the experience solidified his ambition to enter the ring.
When a school careers advisor was unable to offer guidance on pursuing a professional wrestling career, Hayes wrote to promoter John Freemantle of Premier Promotions. Freemantle connected him with Peter Collins, founder of one of Bristol's earliest wrestling schools.
In September 1997, at 16 years old, Hayes took his first steps into professional wrestling. He later trained locally under fellow Salisbury wrestler Clive Cannell at the Salisbury Boxing Club, then operating out of the back of a city centre pub before its move to Churchfields Industrial Estate.
Over his nearly three-decade career, Hayes has competed across the globe, including tours in the United States, Australia, and Japan. Locally, he has performed at the Salisbury Livestock Market, Five Rivers Leisure Centre, and multiple shows at Salisbury City Hall under promoter Lewis Blain.
"It’s been a wild ride. I’ve gone to places and met people I never would have dreamed of when I started out all those years ago," said Hayes. "To end my in-ring journey at Salisbury City Hall is deeply meaningful to me, even more so after my dad passed away earlier this year. I’m equally thrilled and somewhat nervous to be in the main event—a position I saw many British and international legends in when I was younger."
Hayes added: "I hope I inspire someone to start their own journey in wrestling. It’s not as impossible as it once seemed many years ago, and there are many great training schools out there where someone thinking about taking the plunge could start on the road to fulfilling their own dreams."
Salisbury Slamdown promises an action-packed, family-friendly evening of professional wrestling featuring a full card of British and international talent.
