Local DJ Thom Belk dies, aged 36

Thom Belk, well known for his love of music, the Salisbury Music Awards, as well as being a chef, has died.

Salisbury Football Club broke the news this afternoon by saying, "We’re saddened to bring the news of the passing of former Salisbury FC staff member, Thom Belk.

"Thom was an important part of the bid to rebuild Salisbury FC and played a key role in the early days as it grew. Thom recently rescued us at the 11th hour when our regular chef was involved in a road traffic accident and he was happy to dive in and create a meal for our many hungry guests.

"Our thoughts are with Thom’s friends and family at this very sad time."

The circumstances and reason for his death are not known at this time.

Thom also organised events linked with music around Salisbury, including the Salisbury Music Awards, which celebrated the grassroots music scene in Salisbury - with awards going to original and covers bands, musicians and artists with a link to Salisbury.

He was a regular DJ at several venues around the city, playing as DJ Belko as well as working for Salisbury FC he also worked with Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

He also contributed to the Salisbury Journal and Salisbury Radio. He had previously helped set up a community radio station, The City Sound, which played lots of locally produced music.

Salisbury Radio director Andy Munns said, "I knew Thom for a long time; we set up a radio station together, worked together creating content for Salisbury City FC - he was a force of nature and made things happen when he put his mind to it.

"His work on the local music scene helped elevate many local artists and bands, highlighting and celebrating their work. His 'Salisbury Music Show' on both The City Sound and Salisbury Radio was part of that alongside the Salisbury Music Awards.

"He will be greatly missed - our thoughts at Salisbury Radio are with his family and friends."
