Since yesterday (21st March 2022), film crews, 19th-century carriages, horses and Victorian actors have been spotted in Salisbury Cathedral Close.
Speaking to the marshalls manning the set, it is believed that the crew are filming the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations.
According to the BBC’s casting announcement, Olivia Colman stars in the six-part adaptation which was created by Academy Award nominee and Bafta award-winning writer Steven Knight.
The cast features Olivia Colman as Miss Havisham and Fionn Whitehead as Pip, alongside Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle and Matt Berry.
The star-studded lineup of the series continues behind the scenes as Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker, Kate Crowe and Mona Qureshi are executive producers of the show.
Dickens first released Great Expectations as a series of weekly chapters beginning in December 1860. Eventually, it was published as a novel that tells the coming-of-age story of an orphan nicknamed Pip.
Filming in Salisbury is expected to last until Friday.
