Fancy taking up a new sport? A Disc Golf basket has been installed in Churchill Gardens

Salisbury City Council has installed a new Disc Golf basket in Churchill Gardens for everyone to enjoy.

According to the Council, Disc Golf is a relatively new sport that is growing in popularity. It offers an easy and inexpensive way to participate in outdoor activity, either on your own or with friends and family.

What is Disc Golf?
Disc golf, also known as frisbee golf originated in the USA in the late 1960s and has since spread across the globe. Similar to the ball in golf, players throw a golf disc into a metal target rather than hitting a ball into a hole.

How do you play?
To play, participants throw a disc at a target. Like traditional golf, the goal is to play each hole in the fewest throws (called strokes) possible. The player with the lowest total strokes over the entire course wins. The hole is completed when the disc successful lands in the disc golf basket.

One of the Disc Golf games suggested at Churchill Gardens involves setting up six markers five, six, seven, eight, nine and 10 meters away from the basket.

Start at five meters and with two putters (discs) make two putts at each marker and finish with two final putts at the five-meter mark. Record your score counting one for each made putt.

For the Approch Game, set up five markers 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 meters. Using two discs take two shots from each marker.

Scoring points:

What equipment do you need?
Golf discs have a smaller diameter than typical frisbee disks, they have a bevelled edge and are generally heavier.

The games at Chruchill gardens recommend a 'putter' disc, which can be purchased from various sellers online.
