Downton CofE VA Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection, according to Ofsted, after a recent inspection.
Although not a graded inspection, the visit confirmed the school continues to offer a warm, inclusive environment as well as a high-quality education. Inspectors praised the school’s ambitious curriculum, strong pastoral care, and rich extracurricular offer. They also celebrated the school's culture of high expectations, with pupils achieving well above the national average.
Ofsted found a school that warmly welcomes pupils. The report said, "Their caring relationships with the pupils are nurturing. The school has high expectations for all pupils’ achievement. Pupils respond by working hard to develop their understanding of the subjects they study. As a result, they achieve well."
The report continues, "The school has designed a broad and ambitious curriculum. In most subjects, the essential knowledge and vocabulary pupils learn is clear. For example, in art, pupils make strong connections between the artists they study and use that to influence their own work."
