A consultant surgeon at Oxford University Hospital, who has been travelling regularly to Gaza for 15 years, will be giving a talk about his work at Salisbury Cathedral on Thursday, 30th October.
The event, titled Bearing Witness, will feature Professor Nick Maynard reflecting on his volunteer hospital work in Gaza. He will be in conversation with the Dean of Salisbury, the Very Revd Nicholas Papadopulos.
Professor Nick Maynard is a Consultant Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. Since first visiting Palestine in 2008, he has been returning to Gaza regularly. Each October, he leads a group of Oxford Consultants specialising in surgery, medicine, paediatrics and obstetrics to Gaza to teach medical students, and he has also visited Gaza regularly with Medical Aid for Palestinians to prepare and carry out cancer surgery.
He has led three Emergency Medical Teams into Gaza with MAP since October 7th 2023, most recently spending four weeks in Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in June and July of this year. Nick has recently been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees for Medical Aid for Palestinians.
He has been awarded the Humanitarian Medal by the UK Government for his work in Gaza, receiving his award from King Charles earlier this year.
Nick Maynard is also a writer and lecturer and has met with politicians at the United Nations, in Westminster and Washington.
