Fisherton Street was closed this afternoon (Friday, 5th June) after firefighters were called to deal with a car fire.

The road has since reopened.

A black Mercedes-Benz was ablaze near the sorting office, on Fisherton Street, as you approach the railway bridge.

Firefighters attended the scene wearing breathing apparatus, and billows of smoke were seen emanating from the car.

There were physical signs of heat damage to the front of the car.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service said, "We were called to Fisherton Street, Salisbury at 3:47 pm on Friday (5 June) for a car well alight. One crew from Salisbury attended, with two breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets used to extinguish the fire. The occupants of the car had moved to safety before we arrived."

Combined with the road closure of Wilton Road at St Paul's Roundabout, the incident caused long traffic tailbacks around the ring road, on Fisherton Street and South Western Road.
