A 20-year-old man remains in custody following a police pursuit and road traffic collision in Salisbury this morning (21st May 2022) which damaged the city's 14th-century Poultry Cross.
The incident happened when a man was driving an Audi A3 through the city and failed to stop for officers.
Following a short pursuit, the vehicle collided with The Poultry Cross on Butcher Row just before 00.45am – causing damage to both the building and vehicle.
The driver and two occupants of the vehicle were not injured.
A police spokesperson said, "The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving whilst over the prescribed limit for alcohol and criminal damage."
The enquiries continue.
