Bemerton Heath Pump Track opens for the community

Bemerton Heath residents can now enjoy an excellent new pump track in Salisbury – a project made possible thanks to residents’ passion and commitment to improving local spaces.

The facility is designed for riders of all ages and abilities. Whether on a bike, scooter, or skateboard, it offers a fun and challenging way to get active outdoors.

The pump track, a purpose-built cycling track, is the result of strong local engagement through Community Conversations and the Bemerton Bright Ideas Community Panel, reflecting residents’ commitment to improving their area.

Wiltshire Council has invested £250,000 in the floodlit track, using internal funding and support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to deliver the project. Salisbury City Council will maintain the track, ensuring it remains a community space for years to come.

The track, created by On Track, is located at the end of Western Way. Parking is limited, so visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle, scoot or use public transport to visit the site.

Sam Goss, a Bemerton Heath resident and Community Conversations panel member, said: “We are incredibly excited about the new pump track that has been brought to the estate by Community Conversations. This is turning a poorly used space into a venue for the whole of Wiltshire and will put Bemerton Heath on the map. It is going to bring so many people to Salisbury.”

Cllr Ian Thorn, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: "We’re thrilled to see the Bemerton Heath Pump Track open and ready for use. This is a brilliant new space for people to be active, connect with others, and enjoy the outdoors. Our Wiltshire Plan sets out how it is important we work together to empower communities, and this is a great example of what can be achieved when communities and councils join forces to create healthier, happier places."
Cllr Sam Charleston, Leader of Salisbury City Council, said: “The new pump track in Bemerton Heath provides a great activity for the residents of Salisbury and nearby communities, while also attracting visitors from farther away. It’s a fantastic addition to the area, and we’re proud to take on its ongoing care and maintenance.”

Community Conversations focuses on local areas of need and asks people living there to join together, share ideas and see how they can inspire and make a difference where they live. It encourages people in the areas to join forces and come up with ideas and projects that matter to them and that they know will bring people together and have a positive impact.
