Amesbury man sentenced after drugs found in his home

A 31-year-old man from Amesbury has been sentenced after pleading guilty to Possession with Intent to Supply cannabis and cocaine - having changed his plea on the day of his trial.

Appearing before Salisbury Crown Court on Friday (26th November) Jack Walters, of Jaggard View, Amesbury, was sentenced to a total of eight months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

In addition, he must carry out 20 days of rehabilitation activity and attend a Thinking Skills Programme. He was also ordered to pay £500 prosecution costs within five months and a victim surcharge of £149.

The court further imposed a confiscation order of £775.83 to be paid within 28 days - which if not paid will result in Walters serving 28 days imprisonment. The destruction of drugs and drug paraphernalia was also ordered.

The court had previously heard how Wiltshire Police officers carried out a misuse of drugs act warrant at an address in Pointers Way Amesbury on 18th July 2019 at the address where Walters lived at the time. On searching the property, officers found cocaine and cannabis, as well as £1973.62 in cash.

Detective Constable Myles Scott commented, “I hope this sentence sends out a strong message that if you deal drugs, we will catch up with you. We are determined to deal robustly with those who blight our communities with such illegal activity.

“We rely very much on members of the public being our eyes and ears - if you suspect drug dealing or any other illegal activity, please report it.”
