The appeal court has set a date for Save Stonehenge's latest appeal in its fight to block the Stonehenge Tunnel project.
The date has been hurried into court to be heard before the summer recess. The case will be heard the week beginning Monday, July 15th.
However, Save Stonehenge still needs to raise nearly £20,000 ahead of the case to pay the legal costs.
The case and petition organised by the Stonehenge Alliance say they "are individuals closely associated with the Stonehenge Alliance, which has been campaigning for over 20 years to protect the Stonehenge World Heritage Site."
They also say that "the new road and tunnel would cause massive and irreparable damage to the archaeological landscape in violation of the UK’s international commitment to safeguard the site for future generations."
The project doesn't only include the tunnel but also includes improvements to other junctions, including a flyover at Countess Roundabout and a bypass at Winterbourne Stoke.
Stonehenge Project Director for National Highways, David Bullock, said of the appeal when it was first announced, “We are hugely disappointed by this decision, which will cause more delays to this scheme as the next stage of the legal process unfolds.
“However, we will participate fully in any future legal proceedings to continue to present the case for the scheme, working closely with the Department for Transport.”
