On Sunday, 14th September 2025, 30 Girlguiding volunteers and their guests gathered for a special celebration event at the Guildhall in Salisbury.
The event provided an opportunity for Girlguiding South West England to present various awards and thank some of their incredible volunteers for their dedication to Guiding. Among the awards were the region Compass award, GOLD award, Queen’s Guide award, Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, Young Adult Leader award and Gold Peer Educator award.
The celebration event attendees were treated to a performance by young members from Hampshire North, called Hotch Potch Performers, and Alfie the Magician. The event concluded with a delicious afternoon tea.
Attendees enjoyed the time to network with their Guiding friends, share experiences and the best bits of Guiding, and celebrate the positive impact they make in the lives of girls and young women across the south west of England.
Racheal Tattum, Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding South West England, said, “It was inspiring to see so many achievements recognised at our region celebration event. The time, energy, and love that our members give makes a real difference in the lives of girls and young women across our region. I couldn’t be prouder.”
Girlguiding is the UK’s largest youth organisation entirely dedicated to girls. Their volunteers help local girls and young women enjoy a wide range of exciting activities, as well as acquire new skills and experiences – and have fun at the same time. Flexible volunteering is highly encouraged, with a variety of roles available for those who prefer a more adaptable approach to Guiding.
Being a Girlguiding volunteer could see you going around the world accompanying girls on trips of a lifetime, spending a weekday evening helping girls learn a new skill or enjoying an action-packed outdoor adventure weekend as you make your own lifelong friendships. There are numerous roles to choose from that fit your lifestyle, and all the necessary training and support are provided.
