Nigel Stonier is a masterly songwriter, a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and an energetic, witty live performer. But solo work aside, his musical career has included many notable collaborations and diversions. Nigel has strong ties with legendary folk/rock band Lindisfarne. In the 90s after their songwriter in chief died suddenly, the band reached out to Nigel, and together with founder member Rod Clements Nigel wrote the material for the bands next 2 albums, including "Can't Do Right For Doing Wrong" which became a top 40 hit for pop artist Erin Rocha. Iconic folk act FAIRPORT CONVENTION are another band who've called on Nigel's services with spectacular results. Nigel co-wrote 2 albums for the band, and the title track of one of these "The Wood And The Wire" has become a latter day anthem for the band.
But Nigel is far from being an out-and-out folkie, he's a versatile writer and performer who transcends genre. PAUL YOUNG, of Mike And The Mechanics, covered Nigel's song "The Heart Of A Woman". Last year one of Nigel's songs "Messin' With Fire" was performed at the BBC Proms by million selling pop artist SAM SMITH. The same song, written with jazz superstar and BBC presenter Clare Teal, was also featured on a top 20 album and on several jazz compilations, then used on the soundtrack of hit movie "Confetti" .. and even reappeared as a Toyota TV advert! Nigel worked for many years with singer songwriter THEA GILMORE, and all 6 of Thea's BBC Radio 2 A-listed singles between 2009 and 2015 were co-written and produced by Nigel, including "London" which was adapted by the BBC as a theme to their Olympic Games coverage in 2012. As a solo artist, Nigel enjoyed a particularly proud moment when his song "I Hope I Always" was heavily featured on BBC Radio 2 and described by several presenters as a "song of the year", prompting the album from which it was taken - "Built For Storms" - to take up residency in the iTunes singer/songwriter top 10.
Having recently produced a new album for Dave Hemingway (of the Beautiful South)'s new band and followed with his own new solo release "Wolf Notes" this year, his 7th album to date.
Don't miss this chance to see him up close and acoustic.
